The Ayrshire Coastal Path is a long distance walking route from Glenapp to Skelmorlie. We walked the southern half, from Glenapp to Ayr as a way of continuing from the Galloway Coastal Path to the End of the River Ayr Way. Here are the six sections of the path:
- Section 1: Glen App Kirk to Ballantrae. There is some beautiful scenery, but there can be challenges such as locked gates and wet ground.
- Section 2: Ballantrae to Lendalfoot. We had bad weather on this walk, but the scenery was still worth it. There are some interesting sights along the way, including a ruined cave and a monument to a Russian cruiser.
- Section 3: Lendalfoot to Girvan Mains. This section is a coastal walk that includes a ruined farmhouse and a waterfall. The walk also offers views of Ailsa Craig and the seaside.
- Section 4: Girvan Mains to Maidens. This was challenging in places, but the scenery is beautiful. The walk includes beaches, dunes, farmland, and several interesting landmarks such as Ailsa Craig, Turnberry Lighthouse, and the ruins of an RAF base
- Section 5: Maidens to Dunure The walk takes you along beaches, through a castle, and by a ruined dovecot. The scenery and wildlife of the area are beautiful.
- Section 6: Dunure to Ayr. Challenging but rewarding, this section takes in some beautiful scenery including beaches, cliffs, and a river. There are also some historical sites along the way, such as Dunure Castle and Greenan Castle.
Overall, the Ayrshire Coastal Path is a great way to experience the beautiful scenery of the Ayrshire coast. The walks can be challenging in places, but they are definitely worth the effort.
